Kevin loo - The Culture Conversation - IV

ROMANS 12:1-2 (MSG)
One of the fundamental things I shared with all of us on values and culture is:

CULTURE
Practiced collectively
HABITS
DetermineCarried out consistentlyDisplays
BEHAVIORS
Put into action practically
VALUES

What we repeatedly do is called habits. But what a group of people repeated do is called culture.

WHAT is culture?
It is the self-sustaining pattern of behavior that determines how things are done.
It is a collective, self-sustaining, observable and consistent behavior of a community.
We need to be intentional in the culture that we want to create and at the same time not tolerate the culture we do not want to cultivate.
WHY IS CULTURE IMPORTANT?
It is quite simply because we have a goal in mind.
v2
The end game for all of us as believers is the development of a well-formed maturity in us that is to first be a disciple and then a disciple-maker!
Value 1:GOD-CENTREDNESS
Concept: CHRIST AT THE CORE
Action Statement: GO TO THE BIG GUY
Going to the big guy should be the first not the last resort.
Acts 17:28“…for in Him we live and move and have our being…”
When we work, we work. But when we pray, God works!

The second value:
Value 2:COMMUNITY
Concept: EVERYONE BELONGS!
Action Statement: OPEN YOUR CIRCLE
Christ died so that everyone belongs!
Today, we are a community of faith and members of the household of God.
Value 3:DISCIPLESHIP
Concept:MIRROR CHRIST
Action Statement:MULTIPLY LIVES
This end game for every believer is the development of well-formed maturity in Christ, which means to first become a disciple and then a disciple-maker.
If we keep this in mind we can stay very focused in our walk with Christ.
Who is a DISCIPLE?
A disciple is a follower of Christ and a learner of the way of Christ.

I need to first have my life MIRROR CHRIST and then I MULTIPLY LIVES by doing life with them, teaching them the Word of God and walking with them.

Value 4:EXCELLENCE
Excellence is different from perfection. Whereas excellence is striving to bless God and others, perfection is purely self-gratifying.
Psalm 8:1-9
Proverbs 22:29
Value 4:EXCELLENCE
Concept:DETAILS AND DISTINCTION
Action Statement:UP YOUR GAME
Giving our best is not a one-off. It is something progressive. It is work in progress so that is why with every new task, we up our game! We make it better each time
If something is worth doing, is it worth doing it well
Up our game, make it better
Value 5:CREATIVITY
In Genesis 1 it is written, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. God, who was first introduced as Elohim, means the Creative Spirit!
We serve a Creative Creator!
And we are made in His image so… we are natural!
Ephesians 3:20

Value 5:CREATIVITY
Concept:IMAGINE THE IMPOSSIBLE
Action Statement:CONNECT THE DOTS
Therefore, we want to encourage you to always imagine the impossible whenever you are tasked with a project.
Don’t just get the job done. Get it done beautifully and with flair.
Though we may work within limitations, our thought-process cannot be restricted.
Let the ideas fly. And then we tackle the task by connecting the dots, which means we bridge all the existing ideas to make one beautiful one!

We solve the problem with what we have. And that’s how creativity thrives – with limitations!
Creativity is not doing any activity in particular. It is more like an attitude.
Creativity is really a mindset - a mindset of seeing the dots sometimes from different perspectives!
Creativity is making things work with what we have.
