Parents, children, masters and slaves
Ephesians 6:1-9
Husbands and wives - sexual beings
Children - temporal beings
Masters and slaves - material beings
1) the duty of children
Eph 6:1-3
i) nature
Standard behaviour in every situation
ii) revealed law
v. 2-3
Lev 19:1-3
Reverence for parents was thus made an integral part of reverence for God
iii) in the Lord (gospel)
2) the duty of parents
Eph 6:4
Children have a life and calling of their own
Children are not to be exploited, manipulated or crushed. A child’s personality flourishes and gifts blossom in a healthy environment of positive encouragement and understanding, loving parents
Wise parents recognize that not all the non-conforming responses of childhood deserve to be styled “rebellion”. On the contrary, it is by experiment that children discover both the limits of their liberty and the quality of their parents’ love. - John Stott
Pastor Kevin's application to his family
1) spirituality
2) music
3) language
Both the words training have to do with discipline and admonition as verbal warning or instruction
3) The duty of slaves
v5-8
They are taught to move on from the slavery of men-pleasing into the liberty of serving Christ.

4) The duty of masters
v9
There are three principles for masters:
i. Do the same thing to them
ii. Give up threatening
A relationship based on threats is not a human relationship at all
iii. Knowing that your own Master is in heaven and there is no partiality in Him
All three principles were written by Paul to lessen the cultural and social gap between slave and slave-owner.
